Hello, after reading a lot of docs. (xcin, famous cjk how to, vim multi-byte support), and trying to get xim with xcin working properly it is still not working. Many docs suggest to change the comlete locale to chinese (no matter if simplified or not), but thats not what i want. I`ve installed all font packages that come along with SuSe 8.0 and xcin. I`ve written a little startup skript for xcin : export LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.GB2312; export XMODIFIERS=@im=xcin xcin & XCIN (Chinese XIM server) version xcin 2.5.2.3. (module ver: 20000831, syscin ver: 20000210). (use "-h" option for help) xcin: locale "zh_CN.GB2312" encoding "gb2312" xcin: XIM server "xcin-zh_CN.GB2312" transport "X/" xcin: inp_styles: Root OverTheSpot Xcin starts up, but it is still not possible to enter chinese in vim or kmail...etc. even if i start vim or kmail or kwrite in this localised console. i`ve also installed kde3 locales for chinese, and it is possible to change the entire locale to switch kde completely to chinese. For i study chinese studies it`s quite important for me to enter chinese text, in my essays. It was quite easy to setup this for Windoze, but i don`t know what to do under linux. So what i need is a easy to handle chinese input method for pinyin, some nice looking fonts, the possibility to work with open office and latex and of course and of course the possibility to print my texts. Here are some more Informations: xlsfonts | grep gb2312 -guobiao-song-medium-r-normal--16-160-72-72-c-160-gb2312.80&gb8565.88-0 -isas-fangsong ti-medium-r-normal--16-160-72-72-c-160-gb2312.1980-0 -isas-song ti-medium-r-normal--16-160-72-72-c-160-gb2312.1980-0 -isas-song ti-medium-r-normal--24-240-72-72-c-240-gb2312.1980-0 and xlsfonts | grep big5 -eten-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-150-75-75-c-160-big5-0 -eten-fixed-medium-r-normal--16-150-75-75-c-160-big5.eten-0 -eten-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-230-75-75-c-240-big5-0 -eten-fixed-medium-r-normal--24-230-75-75-c-240-big5.eten-0 If you need some more information, or have a short to-do list mail me. thanks a lot Wolodja Wentland
Hello Wolodja Wentland, you wrote that you started xcin as follows:
export LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.GB2312; export XMODIFIERS=@im=xcin xcin &
Then, xcin said:
XCIN (Chinese XIM server) version xcin 2.5.2.3. (module ver: 20000831, syscin ver: 20000210). (use "-h" option for help)
xcin: locale "zh_CN.GB2312" encoding "gb2312" xcin: XIM server "xcin-zh_CN.GB2312" transport "X/" xcin: inp_styles: Root OverTheSpot
The part "XIM server "xcin-zh_CN.GB2312"" means that xcin should be referred to as "xcin-zh_CN.GB2312" under XIM. Therefore, you should change the line export XMODIFIERS=@im=xcin to: export XMODIFIERS="@im=xcin-zh_CN.GB2312" and everything should work correctly (b/t/w: @im=xcin is used only if you start xcin in Big5 locale, i.e. traditional Chinese). Hope this helps a little, if not, please let me know. Jan
