Hi, I just found out about a few more problems caused by the broken locale settings in X11: - I can't enter umlauts in X applications (xterm, gvim, ..). This causes great trouble. - In gvim some of the (German) menu items don't show the regular labels. The text labels are either missing completely (one can tell from the spacing that there is a menu item, however) or only the commands (e.g. :cn) called by this menu item are present, but not the explanatory text label. Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by Xlib, locale set to C
Apparently you are using an locale which isn't supported by XFree86.
Check the output of the "locale" command and read
