SuSE 8.1 and typing in foreign languages - some characters not sh owing up!
Hello! Quick question on typing in foreign languages... I've got a laptop with a US keyboard, and a docking unit with a UK keyboard. In KDE I've enabled UK and US English, as well as Russian and Romanian. If I open Kword or any other word processing program I can type in Russian, and even the UK keyboard entries (£works correctly. However, in Romanian I can't get any of the special characters. I even tried in Spanish and it didn't work. Romanian keyboard isn't much different than an English qwerty, except that the ', #, [, ] are dedicated to special characters, and a few other keys are switched around. Any suggestions? Cheers, MJR

Spanish appears to work without problems after executing setxkbmap es nodeadkeys then it behaves exactly like on the picture shown at http://www.uni-regensburg.de/EDV/Misc/KeyBoards/ http://www.uni-regensburg.de/EDV/Misc/KeyBoards/keys16l.jpg Executing "setxkbmap es nodeadkeys" in the command line of a terminal has exactly the same effect as selecting "Spanish" and "nodeadkeys" in the KDE control centre.

How does a "standard" Romanian keyboard look like? Like this?: http://www.uni-regensburg.de/EDV/Misc/KeyBoards/ http://www.uni-regensburg.de/EDV/Misc/KeyBoards/east11.jpg
Any suggestions?
It looks like there is no such keyboard layout available yet.
Apparently there is only one Keyboard map for Romanian
currently available:
/etc/X11/xkb/symbols/ro
but this is very simple and doesn't agree with the above picture.
It contains only:
// symbols definition for a very simple Romanian Keyboard layout.
//
// We basically override some modifier_keys so that using the Right Alt
// and the corresponing letter we are able to generate the romanian characters
