SCIM not OK? 9.1 Pro New installion
Hi, I just install my brand new SuSE 9.1 Pro on my computer, and SCIM not working. I already tried to put KDE locale to Chinese, but SCIM also not working. My question: 1. Can I have english locale with Working chinese (simplified) input. 2. Is there any configuration file to tweak to make SCIM working? thanks =========================================================================================== "Gabung INSTANIA, dapatkan XENIA. You mean SCIM doesn't start automatically? To make SCIM start automatically with your X-session, just set LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.UTF-8. See: http://www.suse.de/~mfabian/suse-cjk/locales-sysconfig.html

Yes.
2. Is there any configuration file to tweak to make SCIM working?
If you don't set LC_CTYPE=zh_CN.UTF-8 and you want that it starts nevertheless automatically with your X-session, create a file ~/.xim and write export XMODIFIERS="@im=SCIM" scim -d into that file. And, to make SCIM support for example the en_US.UTF-8 locale, write /SupportedUnicodeLocales = en_US.UTF-8 into /etc/scim/config. You can use any UTF-8 locale you like. -- Mike FABIAN <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。

I just tried on SLES9 which has scim-0.9.6 and OpenOffice 1.1.1 and it worked fine for me. SuSE Linux 9.1 contains scim-0.9.1 and the same version of OpenOffice. I guess this works as well but I don't have a 9.1 system handy for testing right now. If scim-0.9.1 really has problems with OpenOffice (I doubt it), please try the scim-0.9.6 from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-0.9.6-0.1.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-chinese-0.3.0-1.1.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-config-gconf-0.9.6-0.1.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-config-socket-0.9.6-0.1.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-devel-0.9.6-0.1.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-frontend-socket-0.9.6-0.1.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-gtk2-immodule-0.9.6-0.1.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-server-socket-0.9.6-0.1.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-tables-ja-0.3.5-0.1.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-tables-ko-0.3.5-0.1.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-tables-zh-0.3.5-0.1.i586.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/src/scim-0.9.6-0.1.src.rpm

I'm not sure whether it is still necessary to implement something like that in YaST. XIM is becoming obsolete soon, GTK2 already has input modules and Qt will soon have an input module API as well. And there is IIIMF. Therefore, you will be able to avoid using XIM completely soon and use more modern input systems instead which allow switching input methods on the fly. -- Mike FABIAN <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。

wow, good to know something better will come. ;)))
