printing PS or PDF from Konqueror with Japanese pages
I have Sue 8.2 Pro installed (English Desktop but Japanese system is installed) all Japanese input (Kinput2) is working fine I have also installed all the Japanese fonts and here is the problem when I try to print a Japanese web page to PS or PDF it goes through the process of printing but at the last page it hangs and I have to kill the browser from CLI to get rid of it. I have no problems printing to a printer just when printing to PDF or PS (of course I am in Japan and our printer support Japanese fonts) I am also not able to print Japanese web pages when using Mozilla. (Oh yeah I am using CUPS) Any help would be appreciated (or did I mioss something stupid like usual?-be kind) David Blomberg

When I print to PS file from mozilla I get a page that is missing all the Japanese words and only a few of the graphics are showing the rest of the page is pretty well empty. When I print from Konqueror I get the hang problem when the print gets to the last page count it just stops there and has to be killed So I cant get a Japanese PDF from the web page either way. the link to the page in particular www.dihkj.or.jp/analog/Report.htm I have also tried on several sites here in Japan with the same problem--funny part is I can print to a Laser jet printer well enough Japanese fonts and all. As I said I am using CUPs and as this is the first install I am using CUPs with I dont know if I am missing something there Thank you David Blomberg

This works for me from mozilla. Also with the page you mention. www.dihkj.or.jp/analog/Report.htm. I guess you are just missing some packages. For printing Japanese from Mozilla you need to have the ghostscript-cjk.rpm package installed. Is it possible that this package is missing on your system? You also need the Japanese TrueType fonts ttf-kochi-gothic.rpm and ttf-kochi-mincho.rpm. You probably already have these fonts installed but please check this as well. After installing ghostscript-cjk don't forget to run SuSEconfig. -- Mike Fabian <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。

Writing PostScript or PDF output into a file from Mozilla or Konqueror is unrelated to CUPS. Mozilla and Konqueror do that on their own, CUPS is not involved. -- Mike Fabian <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。

I can reproduce that problem with Qt 3.1.2 *and* Qt 3.2.0b1 but not with Qt 3.1.1 (which was the original Qt in SuSE Linux 8.1). Have you updated your Qt packages? As a temporary workaround you can downgrade to Qt 3.1.1 and upgrade to the XFree86-libs packages from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/update/8.2/rpm/i586/XFree86-libs-4.3.0-42.i586.rpm Qt 3.1.1 has problems with printing with certain fonts, the above XFree86-libs package has a workaround for this. But this is only a temporary workaround of course, I'll search what is going on when doing this with Qt 3.2.0b1. -- Mike Fabian <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。
