Re: [m17n] Why doesn't Japanese work in Suse 9.0?
Does something simple like
LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 xfd -fa sans
Do I type that on the command line? Will it also fix the other broken non-Latin fonts? Surely Suse should have set this up correctly. By the way, I'm certain Suse comes with all necessary fonts, because it's working on another Suse Personal installation I've seen. A full unicode font (CJK included) is only 40 megs or so anyway; I can't imagine that not being included in a three-disc distro. Again, I apologize for relying on the nice people on this mailing list; this is pretty basic and should have worked out of the box, I think. Paul Davidson

It won't fix anything, it's just a test to see whether your system behaves normally.

40 megabyte is a hell of a lot stuff. There is a lot of discussion over each megabyte on the personal.

It works out of the box for the professional edition. -- Mike FABIAN <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。

This seems to fit a rather general pattern: Pedestrian users had better get the professional edition. The personal edition is better left to the pros. Karoly (who bought the professional edition...)
