RE: SCIM, (ar/heb); and possible problem in SCIM setup
Hello, Do you mean scim-m17n plus requirements is enough? I use Suse 9.1. My system tells me I need m17n-lib for scim-m17n, and m17n-lib needs (it says) "libanthy.so.0" and "libanthydic.so.0". Where could I find those? Or what are their equivalents in the suse m17n package lists? And, as I have the honour of talking to the SCIM author himself (if I'm correct), I have a little question. I opened the scim-setup, and when I took a look at "Current Config Module"; I clicked the arrow next to "socket" just to take a look, although I guess "socket" is the only thing I have available there (?). Then it says, "Current Config Module has been changed to socket." although I didn't (want to) change anything. It has an "OK"-button, and if i click it, it doesn't go away (it keeps popping up). It keeps hanging there for a while even if I log out or shut down the system. Did I make a mistake, is it a bug, or did I fail to install something? Beside that, SCIM works perfectly, so it's not an actual problem, if I just don't touch this "Current Config Module". Maybe it's because of Suse 9.1? (I could upgrade to 9.3, but there have been discussions about Korean not working perfectly yet with SCIM on 9.3 (is this still the case?) and Korean is what we most need. Thank you; and, I'll try to put hebrew and arabic in SCIM too. You must try it. Regards James Su

Yes.
I use Suse 9.1.
The scim-m17n etc. packages included on your SuSE 9.1 CDs/DVD are a bit old though, for example there was no M17N-t-latn-pre input method available at that time. I recommend to update to the packages you can find in ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/

Install the "anthy" package from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/.

No, it SCIM should work even better for Korean on SuSE 9.3 because scim-hangul has been updated. I think nobody said that SCIM had problems with Korean on SuSE Linux 9.3. Marc Wäckerlin <Marc.Waeckerlin@siemens.com> wrote: Marc> The problem with Korean and SuSE 9.3 is, that you can Marc> configure a korean keyboard layout, but loading it results Marc> in an error. The command KDE tries to execute is: Marc> setxkbmap -model inspiron -layout ko Marc> This results in the error message: Marc> Error loading new keyboard description But this has nothing whatsoever to do with SCIM, that's purely a X11 problem, the layout "ko" is simply missing in X11. And, as I found out when checking after Marc's mail, there never has been a Korean keyboard layout in X11, Jungshik Shin once tried to add one but somehow it got lost. It will soon be added to X11 (See bug #87443 on http://bugzilla.novell.com). And, you don't really need a Korean keyboard layout because the difference of a Korean keyboard layout and an US keyboard layout is very small, the only difference is that the Korean keyboard has two extra keys to the right and left of the space bar, the rest is identical. You should have no problems using a Korean keyboard with an US keyboard layout. I.e. I see no reason preventing you from updating to SuSE Linux 9.3. -- Mike FABIAN <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。
