No, the license doesn't allow redistribution.
You can use xpdf or kpdf to display Japanese PDF-files, these viewers
work Japanese by default on SuSE Linux.

yes. But the installation program asks where acroread is installed. If I look for this (whereis acroread) I get different places: ugroh@linux:~> whereis acroread acroread: /usr/X11R6/bin/acroread /usr/bin/X11/acroread /usr/X11/bin/acroread ugroh@linux:~> Which is the right directory? ugroh@linux:~> whereis acroread acroread: /usr/X11R6/bin/acroread /usr/bin/X11/acroread /usr/X11/bin/acroread ugroh@linux:~>
/usr/X11R6/bin/acroread is just the start script for acroread, the other two are duplicates because of convenience symlinks: mfabian@magellan:~$ ll /usr/bin/X11 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 8月 8 19:45 /usr/bin/X11 -> ../X11R6/bin/ mfabian@magellan:~$ ll /usr/X11 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 8月 8 19:45 /usr/X11 -> X11R6/ mfabian@magellan:~$
Which is the right directory? Or even another one?
/usr/X11R6/lib/Acrobat7
is the correct directory.
If you check with
rpm -ql acroread
you see that almost everything belonging to acroread7 is in that
directory.

There's an another solution. If you have installed acroread-7.0.0*.rpm from SUSE site already, try those steps below. 1) Download 2 jpnfont packages from Adobe site. $ mkdir /tmp/{4,5} $ cd /tmp/5 $ wget \ ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobatreader/unix/5.x/jpnfont.tar.gz $ cd /tmp/4 $ wget \ ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobatreader/unix/4.x/jpnfont.tar.gz 2) Unpack jpnfont packages and install necessary files manually. $ cd /tmp/5 $ tar xzf jpnfont.tar.gz $ cd /usr/X11R6/lib/Acrobat7/Resource/CMap $ su # tar xf /tmp/5/JPNKIT/LANGCOM.TAR # cd /usr/X11R6/lib/Acrobat7.0/Resource/Font # tar xf /tmp/5/JPNKIT/LANGJPN.TAR --Now you can display Japanese font in PDF files by AdobeReader. But you cannot display gothic font yet. So, let's continue. $ cd /tmp/4 $ tar zxf jpnfont.tar.gz $ cd /usr/X11R6/lib/Acrobat7.0/Resource/Font $ su # tar xf /tmp/4/JPNKIT/LANGJPN.TAR That's all. Yes, you need to install both fontpacks, the old one for Acrobat4 and
the new one for Acrobat5 because the new one doesn't contain a gothic
style font.
It so strange why Adobe doesn't include a gothic style font in the new
font pack, without a gothic font you still cannot display many
Japanese PDF files.
