By standard, acroread is not able to display japanese PDF-files (e.g. http://www.nihonkiin.or.jp/ad/05catalogue/pdf/p02.pdf). On the Adobe webside there is a tar-file with the required fonts. But where to install this fonts? yes. But the installation program asks where acroread is installed. /usr/X11R6/bin/acroread is just the start script for acroread, the other two are duplicates because of convenience symlinks: mfabian@magellan:~$ ll /usr/bin/X11 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 12 8月 8 19:45 /usr/bin/X11 -> ../X11R6/bin/ mfabian@magellan:~$ ll /usr/X11 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 8月 8 19:45 /usr/X11 -> X11R6/ mfabian@magellan:~$

There's an another solution. Yes, you need to install both fontpacks, the old one for Acrobat4 and the new one for Acrobat5 because the new one doesn't contain a gothic style font.
