Mike said: These [fonts-config-timestamp] files are created by /usr/sbin/fonts-config which is called by SuSEconfig. I.e. these files are nothing to worry about, this is completely normal. They are created to check whether fonts-config needs to do any work. If there is nothing new in the font directories, fonts-config immediately exits to save time. *** Do you mean that if the "timestamp" thinks it has already seen these fonts before, they won't be configured well, even if they hadn't been configured rightly before? (...) To make sure that all configuration files are correct, please run /usr/sbin/fonts-config --force as root. The option "--force" makes sure that all config files are recreated no matter whether it appears to be necessary according to the timestamps or not. *** Thank you Mike; Just one little question before I run the above file: what do you think might have caused the culmus fonts to work for a while, say two or three sessions, and then suddenly they stop showing? I've been "struggling" with culmus for weeks now. In the fonts list in OpenOffice they still are mentioned, but, for example as Drugulin CLM, with behind it a number of empty squares, which were not there before. And the font showing in the office document is another font, usually Lucidasans (looks messy). You see, I could understand something is wrong if it doesn't work in the first place, but why work well for a while and then stop working? (I used to think computers don't have moods.) Is that something that /usr/sbin/fonts-config manages? After I got rid manually of all the "config", "rpmnew" and "local" kind of files which I guessed the Culmus .rpm had put there, then as a result, only the Type1 fonts (.afm and .pfa files) were of course, left (in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ and /usr/share/fonts/). Immediately after that, all the Culmus fonts showed again in office documents, in short they just worked, and were printed well. (That made me believe these little non-font files were disturbing.) I wouldn't care if I didn't like these fonts so much ;) Thanks and regards, herman

Yes, but that is very unlikely. If you add new fonts to a directory, usually the access time of the directory will change and differ from the time of the .fonts-config-timestamp files. For details see 'man fonts-config'.

I have no idea. I didn't notice any problems when trying out these fonts recently. -- Mike FABIAN <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。
