[opensuse-m17n] CJK-LaTeX in OpenSuse 10.3
Dear list members, I'm having trouble getting cjk-latex to work in OpenSuse 10.3. I think that I have installed all relevant packages and fonts. Still, my text, which contains occasional Chinese characters in Big5-encoding, produces errors with LaTeX. Everything worked fine for years up to OpenSuse 10.2. but with 10.3. and the switch from teTeX to TeXlive something seems to have changed. I'm using \usepackage[encapsulated]{CJK} % meanwhile, also tried without encaps. \begin{CJK}{Bg5}{kai} % also tried akai, bkai, kair to no avail some messages: [...] (/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/standard.bdg) (/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/Bg5/Bg5.enc) (/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/Bg5/Bg5.chr) (/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/CJK/Bg5/c00kai.fd)kpathsea: Running mktextfm b5ka1206 /usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexnam: Could not map typeface abbreviation 5k for b5ka1206. /usr/share/texmf/web2c/mktexnam: Need to update /usr/share/texmf/fonts/map/fontname/special.map? mktextfm: Running hbf2gf -g b5ka1206 600 hbf2gf (CJK ver. 4.7.0) Couldn't find `ntukai48.hbf' [...] The last message puzzled me because I thought I was using the Arphic-fonts and not the NTU ones. But I'm not so much into TeX font management so I don't really know what's going on here. Any ideas? Or pointers to useful documents? Have you installed the ‘texlive-cjk-latex-extras’ package? Please install this if you have not yet done so and have a look into /usr/share/doc/packages/texlive-cjk-latex-extras/README.SuSE. The section relevant for you is: README.SuSE> ====================================================================== README.SuSE> Chinese: README.SuSE> ====================================================================== README.SuSE> README.SuSE> If you want to use CJK-LaTeX for Chinese, it es recommended to install: README.SuSE> README.SuSE> * ttf-arphic*.rpm README.SuSE> The free Chinese TrueType fonts by Arphic. I’m very sorry about that, the names I used in the \begin{CJK*} statements for the Arphic fonts until openSUSE <= 10.2 are unfortunately used for something else now in the CJK-LaTeX part of TeXLive. You need to use
\begin{CJK}{Bg5}{akab}
here.
Great! This works at the very first try. Thank you very much!

Have you installed the ‘texlive-cjk-latex-extras’ package?
Yes, the error occurred even though the package was already installed.
Please install this if you have not yet done so and have a look into /usr/share/doc/packages/texlive-cjk-latex-extras/README.SuSE.
Yes indeed, that's what I should have done... :| Thanks again, Cheers, Frank -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-m17n+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-m17n+help@opensuse.org
