Hi. In a couple of weeks SuSE 9.1 will be released. I'm interested to know will the Cyrillic work out-of-the-box? I mean a) Will there be an option "Russian" in YaST installer b) Will the xmms-recode patch be applied c) Can I expect the @recode@ option in SuSEplugger (checkhotmounts) Greetings, Alex

Yes.
b) Will the xmms-recode patch be applied
Apparently not. Where is that patch? What does it do? Is it only for Russian?
c) Can I expect the @recode@ option in SuSEplugger (checkhotmounts)
I don't know. I forwarded your request to our hotplug specialist
but I don't know whether he could already implement something for
SuSE 9.1.

That's a patch for xmms to recode ID3 tags from one encoding to another. Eg I still use KOI8-R locale and most of my friends work in windows, where CP1251 is default. So to see ID3 tags from them I need either to change xmms playlist font to *-cp1251 (in this case the characters are wrong displayed in taskbar), or use the xmms recode patch. The web page is located here: http://rusxmms.sourceforge.net/ Features Load/Save playlists in specified encodings (both titles and filenames) Show recoded titles in main & playlist windows (both normal and shade forms) Edit MP3 ID3 tags (load->recode->edit->recode->save) Encoding autodetection using Enca library or high precision original autodetector for russian and ukrainian languages Sorting playlists by titles and filenames Skip conversion of several invalid characters, still converting all valids Fast keys to edit ID3 and OGG tags without mouse, like in Winamp 1.9x Compatible with xmms id3v2 patch

but that is not standard conform. The standard charset is iso8859-1 for ID3-Tags or UTF-16 with BOM. The latter one however is rarely used and most players just don't support it. Better try to use ogg vorbis, it defines UTF-8 as only valid charset and is superior to mp3 anyway. Bjoern
