RE: [m17n] RE: culmus fonts, Arabic fonts

All of these fonts are already included in SuSE Linux 9.3. See the ftp version for example: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.3/suse/noarch/farsifonts-0.4-3.noarch.rpm ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/9.3/suse/noarch/fonts-arabic-0.20040113-3.noarch.rpm You can use these font packages on your SuSE 9.1 system if you like. *** That's great, you/they were a step ahead of me ;) ! Well, it seems logical that Arabeyes fonts would be included; it looks to me, judging by the Arabic Linux users websites I've seen, that people in the Arabic speaking world like to use Linux relatively much. Thanks for the ftp's, I had installed the fonts before in another way, but I love rpm's. Much better than unzipping compressed files. I'll check out what the free-ttf-fonts package looks like. The name seems to refer to Hebrew fonts. So basically, all fonts on SuSE 9.3 ftp lists can be used by 9.1, you mean? Anyway as soon as I have some money I'll get me a 9.3 box. But my wife is pregnant and doesn't want me to spend too much time on the computer. For anyone who wants to use non-western languages without having to use more than one keyboard, or buy a fancy keyboard for that special language, I "discovered" that if you cut up some little Post-it style stickers and write the character on them, and put them in a corner of the keys, you can always remove them later on without messing up the keys. Especially good for black keyboards. Regards Herman

The fonts in the "freefont" package contains Hebrew. The fonts in the "free-ttf-fonts" do *not* contain Hebrew. The "free-ttf-fonts" package mainly contains fonts with fancy designs. But mostly they cover only English.

Yes. You will get an error message when installing from the postinstall scripts of the 9.3 font packages because they use %post %run_suseconfig_fonts and the %run_suseconfig_fonts macro doesn't exist on 9.1 yet. That's no problem though, just ignore that, you can easily run SuSEconfig manually after installing or deleting some fonts.
Anyway as soon as I have some money I'll get me a 9.3 box.
If you have a fast network connection, you could try to install 9.3 via FTP. -- Mike FABIAN <mfabian@suse.de> http://www.suse.de/~mfabian 睡眠不足はいい仕事の敵だ。
