- Input problem on Flash site
Please go to http://bugzilla-attachments.mozilla.gr.jp/attachment.cgi?id=2275 and try whether you can input characters there.
I can input Japanese characters in above link see my screenshots https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/mcNXEtpH7tU7RkAh2qiUAQ?feat=directlink and I also try another website: http://weathernews.jp/ https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/hbobUjW4YxOZsEneyrF5HQ?feat=directlink Seem OK with ibus 1.3.9 and ibus-anthy from M17N in my openSUSE 11.3 desktop (11.3 x86 system, firefox 4.0.1, Shockwave Flash 10.3 r181) ~~~ That's it! The difference between your environment and mine is, that I use *x86_64* system and flash plugin is called via nspluginwrapper.
In the past, I tried to use Flash Player "Square" Preview Release, which enables 64-bit support, http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer10_square.html but the result was not good.
If you could input characters on Flash sites, this issue may basically be caused by lack of 64-bit native Flash Player.
So, in this case, iBus itself might be nothing to do with this problem. However, if the workaround would be 'use x86 version, instead of x86_64', that isn't quite cool. Install *-32bit packages of ibus from M17N I think it may work with 32bit flash-player with wrapper But 64bit flash-player ....not sure I may test 64bit flash-player later...stall *-32bit packages of ibus from M17N I think it may work with 32bit flash-player with wrapper But 64bit flash-player ....not sure I may test 64bit flash-player later...
One of the Japanese users tweeted that he could input characters with openSUSE 12.1 M1 + M17N/iBus 1.3.9 + (anthy or mozc) + Firefox 5.0 beta, but I myself haven't tested it yet. I think you should try
I tested this combo (64-bit, though) on my VirtualBox, but couldn't input characters either...
I'm from Taiwan, in fact I'm not sure what I've typed in I launch firefox with command export LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8; firefox click on ibus icon and choose anthy Then I can input some Japanese characters
At least, we need a workaround for this problem.
Seem solved upstream...
We need some more validation for this issue, but anyway, this won't be a barrier that prevents replacing SCIM with iBus as default input method, I think.
- Input-pad
Currently we don't have a good input-pad for inputting special characters or marks which can be integrated to iBus (SCIM has scim-input-pad for this purpose).
I've found Input Pad project http://code.google.com/p/input-pad/ and tried to build packages for openSUSE on OBS, but I haven't succeeded building them yet after openSUSE 11.4 (yep, I could use them at least on my openSUSE 11.3) and can't figure out the cause of the failure.
I know who need it should work on it, but your help will be so much appreciated. ;-)
After my previous post, one of Japanese users has built packages of input-pad and ibus-input-pad. :-) https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=input-pad&project=home%3Aykoba https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?package=ibus-input-pad&project=home%3Aykoba
Those might be useful not only for Japanese but also for other multi-byte language users.
Best,
