[opensuse-m17n] How to add custom designed truetype font support for TeX

Hi, I have a custom truetype font that I am using with OpenOffice with no problem. However I am interested in using it with latex (especially with pdflatex). The font itself is providing the hexagrams of YiJing (aka I-Ching) There seems to be so many different ways of doing it as described in various web sites, yet what is the recommended procedure for SUSE version 9.3 so I can use them with latex.
