If you install the other scim-* packages, the m17n-* packages, libotf and wordcut from that directory as well, you can use SCIM to input not only Japanese but also Chinese, Korean and many other languages.
That's great! I think it should also work with skim - the KDE frontend for scim-libs. So if you use KDE, you might want to give it a try: http://www.freedesktop.org/Software/ScimKDE For those of you who can read German, I also wrote a short German manual on how to input Chinese with skim. You can have a look at http://www.chinaboard.de/skim There is also an rpm for SuSE Linux 9.1 on that page. Unfortunately, I am not really an experienced packager, so if you find any errors, please let me know. I just liked the program and thought that more people might be willing to use it if there was an rpm - so I built one. Really glad so much development has been going on regarding CJK input methods recently - and many thanks to Mike Fabian for making them available under SuSE Linux! Jan
