One of the Japanese users tweeted that he could input characters with openSUSE 12.1 M1 + M17N/iBus 1.3.9 + (anthy or mozc) + Firefox 5.0 beta, but I myself haven't tested it yet. I think you should try
I tested this combo (64-bit, though) on my VirtualBox, but couldn't input characters either...
I use gnome 3 live DVD x86_64 to test ibus After install ibus-gtk-32bit (seem have to update gtk-query-immodules-2.0 with gtk-query-immodules-2.0 > /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules) I can input JP Characters in http://weathernews.jp/index.html But in http://bugzilla-attachments.mozilla.gr.jp/attachment.cgi?id=2275 , ibus can active but characters just can't input to text area
Thanks for testing. In my environment, installing ibus-*-32bit packages doesn't solve any problems. By the way, can you input Chinese characters via iBus on those sites without problem? If yes, this problem might be Japanese specific...
