LXQt 2.1.0 has released, which includes the new component
lxqt-wayland-session.
It officially supports 7 different Wayland compositors:
- labwc
- niri
- kwin6
- wayfire
- sway
- hyprland
- river
with expressed preference for labwc.
To keep a user experience similar to the one of openbox, which is
default for the X11 session, I would select a default compositor among
the stacking/floating ones, namely either labwc, kwin6 or wayfire.
sfalken also proposed [1] to default to miriway.
I have already submitted a new version of patterns-lxqt to X11:LXQt,
which for now is not optimal and open to edits and suggestions;
especially in the logic to require dependencies.
I have tested the labwc and kwin6 in a VM:
- labwc session is smooth, but in a VM it did not lock-hide the pointer;
- kwin6 was perfect, but it requires more dependencies for itself and
gave menus slow animations.
The idea would be to include the wayland session in the pattern, and to
make the default a pleasant experience.
