Hello, looking through the menus of the LXDE default install I find that * "System" would be better named "Settings" corresponding to the xdg-desktop-menu category because it contains both per-user desktop preferences and system-wide settings, it could contain "Desktop Settings" and "System Settings" subfolders * "System -> Administration" is a way too huge listing of every single YaST component which makes it difficult to find YaST itself as it is buried among its own modules * "Other" should really disappear, it only exists because these applications listed in it do not have a proper category, it should either be hidden or "X*" should go into "Accessories" and the printing stuff into "Settings"/"System" * "System Tools -> sax2, OpenJDK Policy Tool", "Sound & Video -> GMixer" are settings which belong in "Settings"/"System" * "Run" is missing an icon * "System -> Install/Remove Software" (i.e. yast --install-software) resorts to su in an xterm instead of gnomesu like all other YaST entries -- Guido Berhoerster -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-lxde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-lxde+help@opensuse.org

* "System" would be better named "Settings" corresponding to the xdg-desktop-menu category because it contains both per-user desktop preferences and system-wide settings, it could contain "Desktop Settings" and "System Settings" subfolders
we can fix that if others agrees
* "System -> Administration" is a way too huge listing of every single YaST component which makes it difficult to find YaST itself as it is buried among its own modules
i cannot fix it, menu is auto-generated by menu-cache based to .desktop files
* "Other" should really disappear, it only exists because these applications listed in it do not have a proper category, it should either be hidden or "X*" should go into "Accessories" and the printing stuff into "Settings"/"System"
we have to change .desktop files of the applications, even kde and gnome menu have "others" so i see no issue here
* "System Tools -> sax2, OpenJDK Policy Tool", "Sound & Video -> GMixer" are settings which belong in "Settings"/"System"
same as before
* "Run" is missing an icon
i have the icon
* "System -> Install/Remove Software" (i.e. yast --install-software) resorts to su in an xterm instead of gnomesu like all other YaST entries

my bad, there is no icon. imho this is not a problem (or at least lowest priority), even gnome has no icon for "run" Andrea - -- - ------------------------------------------ Andrea Florio QSI International School of Brindisi Sys Admin CISCO CCNA Certified openSUSE-Education Administrator openSUSE Official Member (anubisg1) Email: andrea@opensuse.org Packman Packaging Team Email: andrea@links2linux.de Web: http://packman.links2linux.org/ Cell: +39-328-7365667 - ------------------------------------------ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.15 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAkvYB7cACgkQyCZT87TFPui68gCghmVgVVYF1+u8UIloKQYwJDTO EeUAnA6sjaEJBs+En5dMsJuBi5fOQvT/ =z9Sb -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-lxde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-lxde+help@opensuse.org

Anybody object to this?

This should is easily fixable by including Category X-SuSE-ControlCenterSystem while excluding X-SuSE-YaST maybe with the exception of sw_single.
* "Other" should really disappear, it only exists because these applications listed in it do not have a proper category, it should either be hidden or "X*" should go into "Accessories" and the printing stuff into "Settings"/"System"

Well, it is not entirely an LXDE issue because the concerned packages are xorg-x11, cups, and yast2-printer, these desktop entries are there because they have no proper category which is IMHO simply a bug. BTW, at least on my KDE4 menu there is no "Other" category, it is in the LXDE menu because you explicitly request these entries with <OnlyUnallocated>. -- Guido Berhoerster -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-lxde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-lxde+help@opensuse.org
