Proposal: Drop Kubic kubeadm images for Pi
Hi All, As the $SUBJ asks, shall we drop the Kubic kubeadm images for RPi? As far as I'm able to prove in my own testing, the full regular k8s stack in versions 1.19 and 1.20 are too heavy to actually get working on Pi, every cluster I try to bootstrap fails dismally. If other people know of ways to get them working, please speak up so we can improve the images so include such magic out of the box, else I propose we drop the RPi images for Kubic kubeadm. they'll still be MicroOS and MicroOS container host images with podman of course, and I can confirm the MicroOS images seem to work perfectly with upstream k3s for people who want to build such things. I am currently investigating this myself over the holiday break. will let you know my findings!

I can enhance my combustion script to install kubeadm on the images, too, for my kubernetes cluster. So not a real problem for me. Question would be how many are using this images?

Which Raspberry Pi Modell? I have a kubernetes 1.19 cluster with AI container running here on 3 Raspberry Pi4 with 4GB of RAM and a Intel Neural Compute Stick 2. We used it for demos at the Rancher Edge Conference and for the OSS Europe this year in October. It worked fine with impressive numbers. Of course, there is no chance to run it on a Raspberry Pi 3 with only 1GB RAM Thorsten -- Thorsten Kukuk, Distinguished Engineer, Senior Architect SLES & MicroOS SUSE Software Solutions Germany GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nuernberg, Germany Managing Director: Felix Imendoerffer (HRB 36809, AG Nürnberg)
I would agree with Thorsten. Kubernetes works for demos, debugging and testing here with Raspberry Pi4/8GB, also. Please do not drop Kubic support for Raspberry. Proposal: Check for at least 4GB RAM on Raspberry while installation of Kubic. Christian

Ok, thanks for the feedback - we shouldn't be getting rid of the Kubic images for Pi :)

Given the Pi images are a direct dd of the disk image to media which is then booted I'm not sure what the benefit of checking the memory would be. We don't really 'install' Kubic on Pis using an installer where we could impliment such a check.
