just tried a suggested fix for dracut, but it doesn't help: https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1201205 So it really looks kernel related to me... Cheers. l8er manfred

This might be related to the updates to the graphics stack. Does is work if you boot with 'nosimplefb' on the kernel command line?

no, unfortunately the system still hangs; just updated the bugzilla.
