[opensuse-kernel] problems with IDE driver reset after CD is ejected
Hi, when I eject a CD after having copied some files from it I almost always get a reset of the IDE driver. I get following message in /var/log/messages: Nov 29 22:46:58 pfeil kernel: hdd: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy } Nov 29 22:46:58 pfeil kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown Nov 29 22:46:58 pfeil kernel: hdd: DMA disabled Nov 29 22:46:58 pfeil kernel: hdd: ATAPI reset complete on my Suse 10.2 installation (running kernel 2.6.18.8-0.7-default on x86_64) I also installed Suse 10.3 on another partition in the hope it may be gone with the new kernel, but basically the same problem: ata2.01: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x0 SErr 0x0 action 0x2 frozen ata2.01: cmd a0/00:00:00:00:20/00:00:00:00:00/b0 tag 0 cdb 0x1b data 0 res 40/00:03:00:00:20/00:00:00:00:00/b0 Emask 0x4 (timeout) ata2: soft resetting link ata2.00: configured for UDMA/33 ata2.01: configured for UDMA/33 ata2: EH complete This happens every time I push the eject key on the drive or try to use the eject command. Unfortunately, on the 10.2 installation the DMA is gone after the reset (even though I set keep_settings with hdparm - k 1 /dev/hdd, very strange!), on the 10.3 installation DMA survives, but the tray immediately closes again so that I have to very quick to snatch the CD out of the drive :-/ Both behaviours are not really optimal... The problem only occurs if I have copied some files from CD. If I just put it in and i.e. look a bit around in the CD's directory, there's no IDE reset. I have and AMD Athlon 64, mainboard Asus K8N with Nvidia Nforce 3 250 Chipset. The drives are a Lite-On DVD SHD-16P1S as IDE slave, master is a Benq DW1620. Had an AOpen DVD 1648 AAPro before, same problem. I thoroughly checked the cabling, Master/Slave are jumpered correctly. I even tried to put the DVD drives to separate IDE channels, but it didn't help. Any suggestion would be highly appreciated Cheers Gerhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+help@opensuse.org
