[opensuse-kernel] openafs-1.6 kernel-3.1.9 scheduling while atomic
Dear all, after upgrading from opensuse 11.4 to 12.1, I have a strange problem when using openafs (version 1.6 from the repository http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/filesystems ). After some time my pc freezes, no keyboard or mouse action is possible and in order to get the pc working again, I need to do a reset and reboot it. Inspecting the log-messages (/var/log/messages) I find a bug-entry with the line "scheduling while atomic". A sample of this is given here: -------------------------------------------------------------------- Mar 21 22:34:02 lxgeiger2 kernel: [223202.582543] BUG: scheduling while atomic: There is output almost till the reset. Looking at other "crashes" they always have afs involved in the first call-traces, just as in the case shown above. In that particular case it happened during a backup run with "dsmc", but it in other cases it occured with all different kind of executables including seamonkey, tcsh, ex, awk, sed and others. In all case the call-trace contained the afs-lines with the last being "afs_linux_permission". Has anyone experienced such a problem and does anyone know what the reason could be and how to get openafs working again for me? What else is needed for an analysis of the problem? Any help is appreciated. Best regards, Joachim -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+owner@opensuse.org

This looks like a problem with libafs module from openafs package so I suggest you file a bug in our bugzilla and let openafs

[dsmc:5356] . . . -------------------------------------------------------------------- This "crash" happened in the night and the reset has been done in the morning. There is output almost till the reset.

Hi, I am sorry for the delay in the answer, however, I had trouble with the hardware. Just after launching my help-request, I got aware of a hard-disk problem which led to a disk replacement, new installation of the OS etc.. With the new disk and the reinstalled OS, I accidentally switched to memory-cache for openafs. The problem did not occur since then. I plan to test openafs again with a separate partition for the cache, but since it is not yet set up this has to wait a bit. At the moment at least it seems that the problem could have been connected to the harddisk problem (read/write-error) which unfortunately must have occured at the same time when I upgraded from opensuse 11.4 to 12.1 I will try to post a follow-up on this hopefully in May. Best regards and thanks for the response, Joachim Am 13.04.2012 11:52, schrieb Jan Kara:
Hi,
Dear all, after upgrading from opensuse 11.4 to 12.1, I have a strange problem when using openafs (version 1.6 from the repository http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/filesystems ). After some time my pc freezes, no keyboard or mouse action is possible and in order to get the pc working again, I need to do a reset and reboot it. Inspecting the log-messages (/var/log/messages) I find a bug-entry with the line "scheduling while atomic". Thanks for report. This looks like a problem with libafs module from openafs package so I suggest you file a bug in our bugzilla and let openafs

[dsmc:5356] . . . -------------------------------------------------------------------- This "crash" happened in the night and the reset has been done in the morning. There is output almost till the reset.
