Please forgive me for asking this question.
I really do not know anything about encoded mail and therefore have no idea where the problem may lie.
But is it really necessary for a message sent to, say, this mail list which contains all of the text as shown above?
I know that the posting rules for openSUSE lists suggests that the max number of lines in a signature be limited to 4 lines but the above is simply ridiculous.

Basil, please refrain from polluting mailing list threads with trivial questions! If you must ask your question ensure it is either in it's own thread and on the correct mailing list. Your question about Jeff's GPG signature has *absolutely nothing* to do with the thread of "openSUSE 12.1 kernel update - regression in suspend". This thread is about a serious issue that can well do without your obfuscating and frankly petty questions. A simple online search for "gpg email signature" will answer your question. You are mixing two completely different things: signature and signature ;)
The netiquette rule you mentioned applies to signature as in "I put my name at the end of letters I write." And indeed 4 lines max is a reasonable rule. My personal rule would be "as small as possible", in other words, don't include information your readers have no interest in. Speaking of this...
I hate to chime in with a "me too" message but I should respond to this as well. You've pretty much said exactly what I would have. The GPG signature is functional and email clients that understand them will filter them out of the message body when the message is read. Beyond that, the signature itself will be checked against known keys. Email is easily forged and signatures, along with the web of trust, ensure authenticity. - -Jeff - -- Jeff Mahoney SUSE Labs -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG/MacGPG2 v2.0.18 (Darwin) Comment: GPGTools - http://gpgtools.org Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJP6xR/AAoJEB57S2MheeWyH4AP/jGoLu3ERZZVmYs5A/heSfHK HNYSICRctnQ/xC1D8NtCyX4+8Y/aLZVi3lw6sPYg2yS0XcQ/8VkPxoVrIrFkih7s QD2sEm+yid46KmtWefxxMNV+v6wz/sYGLESPI9P1EmK5Yd4hxTmmfO6O49pu/J5x POlIVRZUXDM7O4sCBbdQQG8CXecSAbeVkF0YaGqSBKj+m089Y/f59hAj6jBS4JvC Zf4hs5ApOJxDP9ny8VBtFjBrhvKumllZSPfGKKU37TRvGzhGPNY3aBo+cnzJL/PH QG1dRSHwqmE7Us6v4dWhGh5jjw4CCttmzPnKDUyWi4Y6FeR4HWiXjro584w0grU9 6/LzR48hTNqXD336a0+QXzrSumsPcW8FzYekrbch0hcogY7TADVpxNbDdCron7e3 BF5p5xoV2x+JTgtmOSNxLEFPlCZIgPePu6oMDADbtfiZ2G/oXyNDzgdnqC3b8ty0 AGx9csiNONydxnMkU/5P1VcCStMw17VXv+UMHoMtVvivUhQoATeQXKx6qHRQ826l VZxy1t+EMfph8aJ+ZPgNJAKDQnQpiQU2LNakyRejgeqYT8rZMK5jX7t5AoFgdFqe 4qjCZaUWmsn194DjNmMDninWqCOylaGAcfvC6RVs0sHtUddTCRnTdKNMlnwc06pg x+d7HLigZCp7ln53+yLN =aRml -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+owner@opensuse.org
