[opensuse-kernel] Xen compatibility
Hi, I'm wondering about compatibility between Xen versions. I have currently openSUSE 11.1 (2.6.27.x, Xen 3.2.0?) running as DomU on a Dom0 using 2.6.22.x / Xen 3.1.0. The used DomU kernel config is like this: CONFIG_XEN_COMPAT_030200_AND_LATER=y CONFIG_XEN_COMPAT=0x030200 Does it mean it's pure luck that the above combination works? Is kernel 2.6.32 (Xen 3.4?) supposed to work as DomU kernel on Xen 3.1? Thanks, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+help@opensuse.org

Yes, unless your hypervisor has respective 3.2.0 bits backported.

Kernel and Xen version aren't really tied to one another. SLE11 SP1 uses kernel 2.6.32 and Xen 4.0.0 (soon to be 4.0.1). With the kernel config options we use (CONFIG_XEN_COMPAT=0x030200) it's going to continue to be pure luck, and may break at any time. If you used your own config, you could set the compatibility level lower, however. No idea ;-) It's openSUSE 10.3 so you might remember?

I'm pretty certain that one didn't have any non-bug-fix backports. Jan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kernel+help@opensuse.org
