LABEL is limited to mounting file systems only.
As opposed to what? I'm having a hard time thinking of any place else I've ever seen it except in fstab, and following root= on a kernel cmdline.
LABEL= syntax has absolutely nothing to do with grub.
Oh? Assuming Grub is the bootloader, how is it not responsible for capturing config info included in its menu config that is needed for init to proceed, and passing it, including whatever follows root=, to whatever it is that needs it? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
