At the end of the replacement process I got the following message:
Some kernel modules could not be included:
sd_mod unix atkbd i8042 ext4 swap autofs4 ipv6
Why have these modules been excluded and what is the effect of them not being included? There are built into the -desktop kernel, so they are no external kernel moules for it.
dracut tries to add them as modules, but fails as they are not there.
There is nothing to worry about, the message is pretty much expected. But why are those messages shown? I guess there exists a possibility to find out whether those modules are built in or not, right?
At least not so experienced users might be quite irritated after doing `zypper up'.
Well it's a bit more than just a simple "irritation". Users don't usually take such a laid back approach to what is installed on their systems. It seems that those modules were built-in into the *-desktop kernel (which I have been using since it became available and which saved me compiling my own because of the CONFIG_HZ at that time being set to only 250 -- and now we are 'back to the future' :-( ) because there was a need for them. If there was a need for them then the question has to be asked as to why suddenly they are not needed and are excluded. My question probably has only a "ho-hum" affect on people who deal with the kernel 24/7/365 but to me seeing that something like "ext4" and "ipv6" have been excluded raises serious concerns because all my paritions are formatted in ext4, and ipv6 is used to access web sites using this new numbering system. So, with at least these 2 modules "excluded", what effect does it have on my system? Good, bad, no affect, what?
