You can try to try the old kernels available in 15.2 update channel. I'd start from Leap 15.2 GA kernel and confirm whether the issue is still seen or not, while keeping the rest.
Thanks for reminding, I eventually tried all the older kernels that are available from the Leap update channel, unfortunately without success and the problem was there with all of them. I am quite sure that this was not an issue with Leap 15.1, but IIRC 15.1 was still based on a 4.x kernel. Meanwhile I migrated the laptop to Tumbleweed, hoping that there are more frequent updates that might eventually fix the problem, but so far it is still happening with the current `5.9.12-1-default`.
Also, did you try some power-saving options mentioned in the upstream bugzilla?
