[Bug 1195860] New: "Dummy output" for sound card on Huawei Matebook D16
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1195860 Bug ID: 1195860 Summary: "Dummy output" for sound card on Huawei Matebook D16 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: hector.selley@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 856103 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=856103&action=edit lspci output Problem: Sound card of Huawei Matebook D16 isn't working properly, is detected as "Dummy Output" Hardware: Laptop: Huawei Matebook D16 APU: Amd Ryzen 5 4600H Sound card (as shown by lspci): 03:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Renoir Radeon High Definition Audio Controller Description: Sound card it's detected by the kernel and lspci is showing it. However it doesn't cast any sound at all. Gnome show it as a "Dummy output" and Plasma just shows a ticked red speaker. I was able to get sound out of the laptop trought Bluetooth, HDMI and an USB external sound card so I'm pretty sure is a missing driver issue. Kernel devs are working in this driver for another Huawei laptop with the same card but on Intel CPU platform. According with what I read on their's github thread, it's not the same driver despite is the same sound card (I don't have the proper knowledge to confirm this). https://github.com/thesofproject/linux/issues/3248 I'd be thankful if you can help me out on solving this annoying issue. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

Not a screenshot, but just redirect to a text file, i.e. run as root: dmesg > dmesg.txt hwinfo > hwinfo.txt and upload those files. Also, run "alsa-info.sh --no-upload" as root, and upload the generated file to Bugzilla, too. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1195860 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1195860#c6 Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.com> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flags|needinfo?(hector.selley@gma | |il.com) | --- Comment #6 from Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.com> --- Thanks. Through a quick glance, this looks like the machine that isn't supported yet. Unless there is any BIOS setup that enables the audio, the onboard audio doesn't seem present on HD-audio bus; the only available HD-audio codec is for HDMI/DP (from AMD graphics), as you already see in the log. The alsa-info.sh shows the ACPI entry "ESSX8336" and this is likely corresponding the audio codec that is connected over I2C bus. So there must be the controller device, and this is missing, so far. My wild guess is that it's controlled by AMD ACP, but there is no corresponding ACPI entry for that, unfortunately. So, currently there is no enough information to enable the audio. At best, try to contact Huawei for plumbing the stuff, e.g. whether it's driven via AMD ACP via what ACPI HID, etc. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
