[Bug 1186944] New: Recent kernel builds interfere with amdgpu power management on certain hardware
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1186944 Bug ID: 1186944 Summary: Recent kernel builds interfere with amdgpu power management on certain hardware Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE Tumbleweed Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel Assignee: kernel-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: za.open.source@gmail.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Hello, in testing Tumbleweed on my Acer Nitro 5 AN515-42 laptop, I've noticed that the default kernel has some problems regarding the power management of the hybrid Raven Ridge/RX560x setup. No matter what 3D load is run, the memory clock of the GPU hardware seems to be locked at 300mhz, resulting in extremely poor performance. This happens regardless of DRI_PRIME setting. Curiously, if I force the TW installation to boot from the default Leap 15.3 kernel, this issue isn't present at all and 3D applications perform perfectly. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

Is it possible that kernel-vanilla is being compiled in an unusual way despite the goal of being the same as upstream?
Unlikely. It is the upstream code.
These problems never manifested when I was trying out Fedora, Ubuntu and as stated before, openSUSE Leap on the same hardware, so this is all very peculiar to me.
Well, a possible difference could be either other distros taking some downstream patches or having some different kconfig, or having some user-space setup that influence on the behavior... -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
