kwebdesktop vs. meta refresh
Hi! I have a question regarding kwebdesktop. If kwebdesktop should fetch a page that has a meta refresh header line (e.g. <meta http-equiv="Refresh" content="300">) then kwebdesktop doesn't return and seems to hang. I assume that khtml is waiting for the refresh event. Thus I cannot take a webpage as desktop-background if this page has such an entry. This is even worse, because if you start KDE, kdesktop is waiting for kwebdesktop to finish, before it shows the icons etc. So you only have the grey X background. Is there a known workaround? Thanks, Daniel

Any more information about this? There only seems to be 2 files, the binary and the .desktop file. The help does not tell much either. How is it configured, is it just a "wallpaper", or is it different? -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

hmmmm, can you please render your question more precisely? kwebdesktop --help [...] Arguments: width Width of the image to create height Height of the image to create file Filename where to dump the output in png format. URL URL to open Example: A page without refresh (working): kwebdesktop 800 600 image.png "http://www.heise.de/newsticker/" A page with refresh (hangs forever): kwebdesktop 800 600 image.png "http://www.heise.de/newsticker/sidebar1.html" Greets, Daniel

It is getting more clear. Where can one specify (in e.g. kcontrol) that kwebdesktop must be used as background (wallpaper). I just run your command example, but only the file is created nothing is put on the background image. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Hi Richard. You _can_ use kwebdesktop to make a desktop background if you choose it via your background settings -> use program in kcontrol. But you don't have to. You can use it for every purpose you need a picture from a webpage. I only need a workaround for the hanging bug. Greets, Daniel
