Hi, I'm running Suse8.0 with latest patches and have just upgraded to KDE 3.0.3 from KDE 3.0.2. Most things seems to that I've tried so far except..... 1. The kdm login window now displays all the users instead of just the ones I have selected. The changes I make do not take effect. The only change that did work was to change the icon displayed. I've checked the "kdmrc" file in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm and it appears to have the changes I selected but "kdm" seems to have a mind of its own as to what it does: PreselectUser=None SelectedUsers=ian, SessionTypes=kde, default, failsafe, ShowUsers=Selected SortUsers=false I also changed the Logo to display the clock instead of the logo and it still diplays the logo: LogoArea=Clock The original "kdmrc" file has been saved by the upgrade process. Is "kdm" using another "kdmrc" file for its configuration? Am I checking the correct files? 2. YAST2 online update has stopped working. I get the Yast2 has started message and then it just sits there with a blank screen. It was working reasonably ok under KDE 3.0.2 but also had the same problems when upgrading from KDE 3.0.0 to KDE 3.0.1 but seemed to be cured after upgrade from KDE 3.0.1 to KDE 3.0.2. Thanks in advance of any assistance. regards Ian

Ian ====================== Ian, I am sure this is already in the FAQ, as most everybody that updated has gone thru this. It seems that the "kdmrc" that is located in your /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm is now dictating the actions of the login screen. Before updating, the file at this location was a soft link to the actual file in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and now it is not. So you can do one of two things to correct the problem. Either copy the correct kdmrc file over to the above directory or rename the controlling kdmrc and remake your soft link back to the main file in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc.

Straying pretty off-topic for this list here, but has anyone noticed that SuSE are releasing new versions of Mozilla-1.1 daily, and calling them all *-1.1-0.i386.rpm I downloaded one today and it was a different size to it's predecessor (on my machine) of 3 days ago, it also behaves differently - as in better. rpm -qa | grep -e mozilla also shows that the new version thinks it is 1.1-0. The only problem with this approach - if you work on the date instead of the version - is that you have to de-install all 6 (or so) mozilla products before installing the new ones. I did not try --force. -- opinions personal, facts suspect. http://home.arcor.de/36bit/samba.html
