kde 3.3.0: All sound settings at 0 on SuSE 9.1
Hi there, I'm running KDE 3.3.0 on 3 machines now - 1 SuSE 9.0 and 2 SuSE 9.1. I've got the same problem on both 9.1-machines: KDE is setting all sound-options to 0. Everytime I log in I have to do all sound settings again. I tried to do the settings in YAST - so success. I tried different mixers - no success. It must be a KDE 3.3.0 problem because it exists since installing 3.3.0. But only on SuSE 9.1. 9.0 is running well. Anyone an idea to solve the problem? Greetings Jochen
Use Kmix (instead of KAMix) and set "kmix -> einstellungen -> einrichten -> lautstaerke beim anmelden wieder herstellen" (Sorry, I´m using the german Version) After that, it will save your settings and restore it when restarting your PC. Greetings Bernd
It works! I like KMix most but I thought it is not available in SuSE 9.1 but it's just not in the menue Thanks! Jochen

KDE menu->Multimedia->More Programs->Kmix. That's in KDE3.3 anyway. Rich
Thanks!

Jochen, If this is the same problem that KDE exhibited with 3.2, it is kdemultimedia3-mixer bugs. I don't have it installed now as I removed it to fix sound settings. There are some mails in the archive on this. Do a search for "sound settings won't stick" and I think you will find the instructions for correcting this. I run the latest KDE available via YOU on 9.1, which calls itself 3.2.1. The default mixer was kamix from SuSE special. This kamix is the most diabolical mixer I've ever seen, as it misses over 95% of my soundcard. To be precise, only the master volume was there. Had to install kdemultimedia3-mixer (not a default) and use kmix as before, works just fine, controls all of my soundcard's hardware. All levels are restored after boot. Huh? 3.2.1 is the previous version. The current, AKA latest, is 3.3.0.

Hah, so I'm not the only one who dislikes kamix. :P

LOL

Nothing to add here. :) Cheers, Leen

The supplementary area is not official and not available via YOU (unless you go out of your way). The latest available via YOU identifies itself as 3.2.1. How much update SuSE has done to it I don't know, but policy is not to update the version number. Of course, thanks for reminding me. :) Cheers, Leen
