Two places to check: Settings/Configure Kmail/Appearance/System Tray tab Your KDE autostart directory (~/.kde/AutoStart) (just a thought it could also be in your session). Andrew ------------------------------- Jabber: acolvin@jabber.org MSN: apc@abcj.demon.co.uk ICQ: 44775817
Hi Andrew, 'System Tray' doesn't configure KDE strt up. It shows only an Icon in the system tray. ~/.kde/Autostart/ is an empty directory. Thanks, Henk Op vrijdag 11 maart 2005 09:26, schreef Andrew Colvin:

How does KMail start? Only as an icon in the System Tray, or as a KMail window?
Thats not what I want to. How can I change this configuration?
Two places to check:
Settings/Configure Kmail/Appearance/System Tray tab
This is related: to quit KMail one has to enter ^Q (<Ctrl>-<Q>), or click on the File->Quit menu item. Entering <Alt>-<F4> or clicking on the Close-Window icon (usually on the top-right corner) sends KMail to the system tray. That may have caused KMail to start automatically upon login. Cheers, Leen

Leen, I will give it a try. Ik zal het uittesten. Alsvast bedankt Henk
Hello Henk, I've got the same problem, and you can be quite sure this is the error : you start the KOrganizer demon automatically at login. Please check it. Greets, Franky. On Friday 11 March 2005 18:59, Henk A.M. Weebers wrote:

Sounds like a save session. You can configure who and when sessions are saved in Control Center->KDE Components->Session Manager A quick solution is to setup your desktop the way you like it (e.g. only have the apps open that you want to open automagically). Then click KMenu->Save Session. But check out the session manager. I have mine set to "Restore manually saved sessions" only. Alvin -- Please reply to the list only.

Hi Henk, I'm a little confused, why do you start both programs or try to start both? Kmail is contained within Kontact, so there is no need to start it individually. In fact, if Kontact is started first, starting KMail only moves you to the kmail section of Kontact, it doesn't start another session of KMail up for you. As Leen pointed out, you have to quit KMail/Kontact from the menu File>Quit or use Ctrl-Q to close it. If you don't, it only suspends it to the systray and it will automatically start the next time you boot, because it is still running. This is the case with most all KDE programs now. Not sure of the logic, but that seems to be the direction they've went. regards, Lee -- --- KMail v1.7.2 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.2 --- Registered Linux User #225206 Sign at college bookstore: Accepted at more colleges than you were--VISA

That's not true, especially not for kmail/kontact. That's the way for _all_ programs, _only_ if you set your sesson management to "restore last session". If you want to get rid of that, just change that in control center. I never close konqueror browser, kontact or anything else before shutting down. I just press the button on my PC and the ACPI scripts are halting the system. I have set my session management to "restore saved session" and then I started exactly those programs I want to autostart and then made the snapshot with "save session". Since this time nothing ever changed in the way my programs are starting after login. Best, Daniel

Are you using kmail to provide IMAP addressbook and calendar resources to KDE? If so, there is a known issue that the first app to load the kde addressbook causes kmail to start (since it has to be running to access the resources). If you were only testing this feature, you can prevent Kmail starting if you turn it off again by removing the resources and disable it in kmail's Configure->Misc->Groupware settings. Otherwise, if you need these features, you'll have to live with kmail on startup for the time being. The kdepim team are working to change the design to decouple IMAP resources and kmail. Thanks Will, I resolved the problem by detach an reattach kmail from kontact. That simple! Henk Op woensdag 16 maart 2005 10:41, schreef Will Stephenson:
