[opensuse-kde] 4.4 and webkit
What happened to the webkitpart package in 4.4? In the feature plan on techbase.kde.org it says Move KDE integration of QtWebKit into kdelibs (but not KPart!) but I'm not completely sure what that means. Is webkit now integrated into khtml, or is there a setting somewhere to switch to it, or what? It means that KDE app developers can now use call WebKit with integration into KDE SC's cookie and password management and be sure that binary compatibility won't be broken for the entire 4.x series. The KPart to use with Konqueror does not have this compatibility guaranty, but it's still developed. Alternatively you can use Rekonq as WebKit-based KDE web browser. But it doesn't seem to be included in the factory packages anymore, it disappeared somewhere early in the 4.4 beta series, which is why I asked

According to http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/webkit-devel/2010-January/000557.html there was a compile error which was fixed a few days ago. I don't know how long it lasted, but apparently it's fixed now. Maybe that was the reason and maybe the KPart will be packaged soon. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
Hello, does it mean Konqueror will use WebKit in KDE 4.4 by default? Or KHTML so I have to use different browser with WebKit in KDE? Best regards, Vojtěch Zeisek Dne Ne 10. ledna 2010 11:18:53 Markus napsal(a):

No, Konqueror does not use WebKit by default. If you install the WebKitKPart ("kde4-webkitpart") you can configure Konqueror to use it http://www.kdedevelopers.org/node/4004 No idea how well it works, because I don't use Konqueror. I'm currently using Firefox and waiting for the next Rekonq release that should be done a short while after SC 4.4 is released. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

You can also set the WebKit part as default on Konqueror. http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-kde/2009-12/msg00001.html -- Javier Llorente

Hi Anders, The statement refers to the activity that QtWebKit has been moved in the kdelibs package. This means that we no longer need the webkitpart package in 4.4 for the pure webkit functionality, as this is not offered from the kdelibs package.
