[opensuse-kde] Akonadi and kmail KDE 4.11.4 on oS 12.3

This is most likely the result of mixing repositories for different distributions. Have you tried upgrading akonadi by specifying the repository explicitly?

Roger, Why do you have the KDE:Qt repo defined ? I hope you are aware that none of the other repo's are building against the Qt version in KDE:Qt ? The KDE:Release:411 repo is build against openSUSE_12.3 directly and KR411 will provide any update for any library required. Using the Qt version for KDE:Qt could be leading to issues as that the change is high that sooner or later a different version of Qt is availabe from there. KDE:Qt is the development repository for Factory Regards Raymond -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I've got the same issue. Its random as to when it happens. The first time I logged into today and launched KMail, it failed. But i've logged in twice since, its worked okay (expect it kept showing a count 3 unread emails in one folder but the emails were invisible until i logged out/in again)
I also see random akonadi problems after (re)booting the system. It looks like a hanging akonadicontrol process because "killall akonadicontrol && akonadictl start" revives akonadi, whereas akonadictl restart ( oder stop and following start) doesn't help, probably because it doesn't remove the hanging akonadicontrol. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Any ideas? An idea would be to de-couple Akonadi from KDE PIM and make it optional as in all good Unix ideas.
I tried to reconfigure Kmail when it crapped out but i couldn't add a Receiving account but it is amazing it reappears when it works. My Kmail still fails to load with the same problems as your on an intermittent basis even though todays updates to PIM and Akonadi went through ok.

I've logged a bug in BUGS.KDE #328968 as there seems no end to this and no response from anyone in this mailing list, perhaps we should be posting this to KDEPIM Users Maybe a good Idea. I installed the latest 13.1 KDE updates and now on my 13.1 system kmail will start after some number of reboots, some times. Today it was two. My 12.3 system with the same KDE 4.11.4 updates will not start kmail very often. In my case it always says 'Cannot connect to D-bus" and "No resources available" I tried some of the suggestions but not the one where you delete all the files. i need the mail so I just renamed the whole database directory and let it recreate one, no help.
I will post anything else I find to your bug report. I'm using SeaMonkey until the kmail or akonadi are fixed. I need my mail working reliably. -- Russ openSUSE 13.1 (3.11.6-4-desktop)| GIGABYTE Z87-D3HP (Intel(R) Quad Core(TM) i5-4440 CPU @ 3.10GHz)|8GB DDR3|GeForce 8400GS (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-331.20)|KDE 4.11.3 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

In fact, nothing that uses Akonadi is happy. I saw a message a week or so ago about the same thing, but there were no replies. A Google search did not get me anywhere. Seems this is not a common problem. I have restarted the machine jic. No matter.
Any ideas?

I've logged a bug in BUGS.KDE #328968 as there seems no end to this and no response from anyone in this mailing list, perhaps we should be posting this to KDEPIM Users
Maybe a good Idea.
I don't know where I found it: akonadictl stop pkill akonadi* ps ax | grep akonadi If processes were found, I killed them. akonadictl start. So I got a running akonadi and kmail. Maybe it could help others here ... F. Mueller -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

I don't know where I found it:
akonadictl stop
pkill akonadi*
ps ax | grep akonadi If processes were found, I killed them.
akonadictl start.
So I got a running akonadi and kmail.

F. Mueller Thanks, next time It does it I will try the pkill and ps part. I did try akonadi stop and akonadi start with no luck. I think I found them

Seeing as you guys have this problem and at least one of you is using the NVIDIA 331.20 binary blob. Try removing it and see that your akonadi will work again with no problems. I've had the same problem and here are the reports on this: 1. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3264801 2. https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/633706/linux/recent-drivers-cause-a... 3. https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487558 Basically it seems there's a problem with the NVIDIA driver, NVIDIA is aware of it but still no fix in sight. Downgrading to 325.15, I can confirm that akonadi works without a problem again. You can get the 325.15 driver from NVIDIA's ftp here: 1. ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/325.15/ If running on kernel 3.11.x you need this official patch from NVIDIA: 1. https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/628864/unix-graphics-announcements-... to let the 325.15 driver compile the module. Just put the 325. patch file in the same location with NVIDIA-325.15.run file. Then run NVIDIA-Linux- x86_64-325.15.run --apply-patch 325.patch file and install the - custom.run file driver. Another workaround for using akonadi and kmail for me was to use sqlite instead of mysql server in akonadi server configuration. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org
