After upgrading a clean SuSE 7.3 install to KDE3.0.1, the KDM login background has gone to a plain grey background with "Linux" in the upper left corner. I've tried to get the background reset from within the KDE control center (as root), but those settings don't change anything. Does anyone know how to get back the old settings? Open the rc-config editor from YaST2 (under "System"). Select Base-Administration > Login . Verify that DISPLAYMANAGER is KDM. That sounds like XDM. Thanks for the reply... but it looks like KDM is the DISPLAYMANAGER. One thing - from KDE Control Center I can change whether the clock or logo is shown, but I can't change the background or anything else. -ronc On Wednesday 12 June 2002 08:51 am, Joe Sullivan wrote:

Thanks,
Try this: Applies to SuSE 7.3 To fix it: a.. mkdir /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm ln -s /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc ln -s /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/Xaccess b.. edit the files in /etc/SuSEconfig and change: qt2 ? qt3 and kde2 ? kde3 c.. edit /etc/init.d/xdm, change: kde2 ? kde3 d.. Add kde3 to /usr/X11R6/bin/wmlist e.. Add kde3 to the sessionlist in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc f.. Add kde3 to /etc/ld.so.conf g.. run ldconfig h.. run rcxdm start
Don't know why but sometimes the changes to the KDM via Control Panel don't take effect. I got the dragon gone even if I had specified anybody could halt the machine. The only workaround I've found is to manually edit the KDM configuration file in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm (in SuSE 8.0). Maybe it works for the background too. Hope this help. Ale. Hi, Try to copy kdmrc from KDE2 directory to KDE3. This works for me. cp /etc/opt/kde2/share/config/kdm/kdmrc /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and may be make a new link ln -s /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc /opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc Then you can change the settings later in control center. Try it out Teratam Bunyagul On Wednesday 12 Jun 2002 12:30, Ron Cordell wrote:
