Re: [suse-kde] konsole crashing with kdebase3-3.3.0-15 SuSE 9.1

Hi Luca! Thanks, you saved me. :) Disabled the new extensions Composite and RENDER and konsole works fine again. I will try to go deeper into this in the meanwhile and will look for xorg bug reports, too. Greets, Daniel
The problem IS with xorg 6.8.1; Konsole crashes if the extensions are enabled. Think is time to submit a bug...

So perhaps it's really a problem with xorg 6.8.1...
Does anyone use this already and can confirm / rebut?
more or less. same rpm of kdebase here, _not_ using x.org 6.8.1 but the default xfree that comes with suse 9.1, no crash. also none of those x error messages you got.
bye, MH

Hi I don't know if this information is useful or if I have missunderstood something, but I use xorg 6.8.1 with kdebase3-3.3.0-8 on my laptop with the new extensions enabled and konsole is working fine there. On my desktop computer I use xorg 6.8.1 with kdebase3-3.3.0-15 and there I have exactly the problems Steve described. So for me it doesn't sound like the bug is in xorg 6.8.1 ... Greets Bruno

Hi Bruno, tht's exaclty what i think. I was thinking to file a bug with KDE, or, better, with Suse mantainer of KDE builds (who knows the name?). I think, even if the stuff is unsupported (i REALLY know that, and thanks to SuSE to let us try the bleeding edge stuff), i bet a bug report would be appreciated. I would like to know where to submit that. My guess is that this is a Suse specific issue given by the combination (KDE 3.3, x.org 6.8.1, Suse build of packages...) Suse, if you are there, just read - i do not want answers, just trying to help Alle 15:48, giovedì 23 settembre 2004, B72 ha scritto:

I wonder if they will. Xorg 6.8.1 is still unsupported. Success Henk

I think they will tell you, not to enable the new extensions as a workaround and you just have to wait some couple of weeks or months until an update of kde and/or xorg will fix that. But since these new extensions aren't really usable regarding stability and speed optimisation, I think that's no big loss. There are a lot of other terminal allplication (xterm is not bad at all) which work nevertheless. So if you really need composite or RENDER, you just have to use another terminal app. Greets, Daniel Am Sonntag, 26. September 2004 00:11 schrieb Henk A.M. Weebers:

Dear List, I just recently started to use Kalarm (part of KDE-PIM) and I find it useful but still quite primitive... I think it would be more beneficial to implement a closer integration between KAlarm and Kmail and Korganizer. I'm my mind the following are the mail requested features of such an integration: - when scheduling a mail, it will be usefull to be able to select the sender id by chosing one of the personalities in kmail - when scheduling a mail (or an event), it will be usefull to be able to chose if you want to find it also in Kmail (for example as sent item), or in korganizer (for example for a scheduled mail linked to a birthday) - it will be usefull to schedule an e-mail from Kmail (which automatically invoke kalarm) - it will be usefull to be able to select a draft message and schedule its possible delivery time I don't see those features as technicall complex, but they will provide a better user experience. What is your opinion on this? For those that see this as usefull, I opened a whishlist item in bugs.kde.org. You can post your comment in http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=90315 regards, Timur __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo! You should probably use http://bugs.kde.org and file these as requests for enhancements for KDEPIM. Or, at least send them to kdepim-users@kde.org mailing list. I do not think many KDE PIM developers read this mailing list. Osho On Mon, 27 Sep 2004 02:31:32 -0700 (PDT), Timur <blackdir@yahoo.com> wrote:
