-> Given the decline of CD's (including music CD's), and that the kscd code is essentially unmaintained, it probably isn't usually to provide it. Also, Amarok can play CD's along with many other music players.

Does Amarok audio cd playback actually work for you? With what phonon backend and amarok version? For me it's completely botched. Audio cds only appear in the local collection if the cd is inserted _after_ amarok is started, and even then they won't actually play. In my opinion the Amarok play audiocd device action should be removed since it doesn't work at all, and hasn't done so for several Amarok releases.

Kaffeine plays CDs though, and is also in the default install.

ah Amarok. You are right. Also I forgot that Amarok rips CD's before it plays them. I would say keep Kaffeine, set it as the default app for audio files in System Settings->File Associations That means that kscd is already redundant.

They have different goals and directions these days. GIMP is aimed at image editing, whereas Krita is specializing in painting. However I think gwenview+kipiplugins offers sufficient image editing for a default install (crop, scale, red-eye-reduction).

Unfortunately I've never tried gwenview + kipi-plugins. The bonus is - if this is a viable alternative - gwenview is already preinstalled and I believe kipiplugins is as well (if not then kipiplugins can be preinstalled).

One other possibility is to enable the image editing in Digikam as default editor. Digikam's Showfoto has a lot of of image editing capabilities with the kipi plugins. Having it tied into the photo collection app is a bonus IMO. I know and really like Krita and know some of development team personally and even they would agree Krita is not a one to one replacement for GIMP. The GIMP and Krita folks are on friendly terms as well... I also agree kscd is suboptimal. Too bad we could not offer vlc-qt4 as the default either.
