[opensuse-kde] plasma-nm in KDE:Release:412
Hi, As far as I can see plasma-nm is still not available for KDE:Release:412 (either in the main repo or in KDE:Extra). Is there any chance it could be added? Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Plasma-nm is now available in KDE:Release:412, but only for openSUSE 13.1. It depends on additional Qt bindings that in their turn depends on newer versions of NetworkManager and ModemManager. These newer versions are not available for openSUSE 12.3. Can you please tell me why, as one who daily checks for updates/upgrades, I am still 'sitting' on KDE 4.11.4 when KDE 4.12 is now available? The release of 4.12 has not been announced, nor is YaST or zypper being redirected to this new release. Why so? Having now just read the above messages I have altered the repository list in 13.1 and will now upgrade to KDE 4.12 - at least this is my hopeful expectation. With regards to the announcement: it's a matter of time, simply put. My new commitments have reduced significantly the time for these matters. I may be able to write something today or more likely tomorrow. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: 6E1A4E79

As already announced quite some time ago, the strategy aligned on the mailinglist is that the repository KDE:Release:412 would be created as soon as the first release candidate of 4.12 would be released. And this was followed correctly.
The release of 4.12 has not been announced, nor is YaST or zypper being redirected to this new release. Why so?
We will NEVER automatically redirected YaST or zypper to any repository, this would in my opinion a wrong approach as that it forces the user to something he/she might not want. So this will always be a manual activity. The only automatic update that the user will receive is through the maintenance channel where 13.1 users will automatically get the minor KDE 4.11 updates. The availability of the KR412 repository and how to change/activated was even announced by Muktware on the Google+ openSUSE page. HA-HA-HAAAAA-HA! I am wetting my pants from laughter! Why not just have a damn simple one sentence ANNOUNCEMENT in HELP or KDE or even ANNOUNCE? Because the whole KDE team is made up by volunteers who do the job in their *spare time*. More help is always welcome. -- Luca Beltrame - KDE Forums team KDE Science supporter GPG key ID: 6E1A4E79

Perhaps reading people's minds is not necessary. Couldn't we set up a service or Repository Index Service (RIS), according to Yast, so that one can follow, for example, 4.12 from the betas to the final without manual intervention? This would also solve many problems with repository management regarding KDE, rendering it user-friendly, e.g. a service named KDE 4.12 may manage the repositories, as mentioned before, and change core, extra and unstable:extra across release stages.
Cheers, Hrvoje

you mean a "kde" Tumbleweed, but we already have a Tumbleweed which includes kde which hasn't quite made it to 4.12, 4.11.3-52.3.x86_64 -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

Something like Tumbleweed but more fine-grained. We could set up services for each set of KDE repositories in the KDE repository page at opensuse.org, e.g. KDE 4.11, KDE 4.12, Factory, trunk etc. However, this multiplied with the number of distributions sounds unmanageable. Perhaps there is some mechanism to automatically redirect to the correct repository based on the distribution?
