Factory is the openSUSE development. Unstable is vanilla KDE trunk snapshots. They both have 4.3 beta currently. Which to use depends what you want to achieve. If you want to help make KDE great for openSUSE 11.2 you should run Factory. This also gets the most developer attention of course. Where does the information come from that unstable is vanilla? The packages there have most of the time the very same patches as factory.

No, Factory contains what we want to have in openSUSE:Factory and unstable contains whatever is newest - if this is good enough, we may copy it to Factory. But that's not "in sync".
