SuSE 8.1 woes (revisited): accented characters
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello List, Thank you for your responses to my keramik and OSS questions. I am happy that OSS won't stop playing my oggs. And I will look out for that special keramik compilation that will work with SuSE 8.1, but only if I find some real improvements in my intention to getting it to actually work. Oh well. I am already pretty fed up with 8.1 as I really can't say that it has improved since 8.0; instead, I am struggling _hard_ to get _at least_ the standard I was used to when working with its predecessor. I don't want to mention all the little things that work worse or not at all. But I keep getting surprises which make me constantly wonder if software is not supposed to GET BETTER in time instead of just the opposite. What's it for now? I was writing an email in kmail and saw that I typed "D'ecartes" instead of -- well, I can't write it because it DOESN'T WORK! I hope you all know what I intended to type: an e with an accent, because it's a french name. That way of typing special characters has worked in SuSE 8.0 just like it does in, yes, Microsoft Windows (TM) since Version 3.0 (correct me if I'm wrong). I read the recent dialogue between Kevin and Patrick but soon found out that his solution does not work for me. Pressing [Alt Gr] + <something> works for some keys. But pressing it with [E] produces €, which is fine, but I also have to write accented characters from time to time. I fear what to discover next. I am very seriosly thinking about uninstalling this newfangled 8.1 crap and moving back to 8.0 again, abandoning hours and hours and hours of struggling, downgrading back to 8.0 and trying to balance it to that way I had it in the remorseful moment as I inserted Disc #1 of 8.1. Has anyone discovered some resourceful site covering experiences with it? - -- Sven Ehret - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Don't say yes until I finish talking." -- Darryl F. I know man. Many of us learned this the hard way: don't even try betas for production.
