tks,
I have to admit, Patrick, that I am not very good at interpreting the output such as the one which you provided above but I am guessing that your sound is coming from a chip on-board the mobo. If so, perhaps the chip has now failed? Also, if so, have you tried installing a sound card or trying another sound card if the answer is No? Nothing worse than not having sound :-( . I sincerely hope that you have this hassle resolved soonest. there's quite a bit of information on sorting out audio problems in the openSUSE forums. here's a script, per example, that checks all type of audio configurations and reports what is or isn't working. i've never used it myself i must admit, but many users seem to have used it successfully: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/multimedia/449156... there's also an "audio-guru" who goes by the name of 'oldcpu,' who seems to be able to help many with such problems. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Your response is probably helpful to the OP but this is not the reason why I am responding to your current post. You are using, according to the information showing in the Header, Opera Mail/11.51 (Linux). Now, I really do not know if this is the reason but what I do know is that every message from you does not 'comply', for want of a better expression, with normal word-wrapping settings. For example, I have a widescreen monitor (1920X1080p) and yet your messages go way past the end of my screen. I suspect that you have some setting which sets your word-wrap at (?)132 characters (or more?) - or no word-wrap at all, as in an editor used for programming? (While the openSUSE mail lists do not accept HTML, I don't know why your posts are getting thru and not being word-wrapped correctly :-) .) i used to have word-wrapping enabled, but after checking now i found that for this account it got disabled, somehow or other. sorry for that. i hope that this message arrives properly wrapped; please let me know if not. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

:-) Thanks for listening. Well, I cannot really answer this as the text of your reply fell quite short of the edge of my monitor screen :-) . But it did not word-wrap as a normal ASCII text message is expected to (at column ?69/70 or is that 72?). now this is weird: i can't find a setting to wrap outgoing messages after 'n' characters; i'm pretty sure it used to be there. checked everywhere, incl. "config:about" and config. files under ~/.opera, but there's no such setting to be found. i'll look again after a while, in case my mind is playing tricks on me, and if i still can't find it, i'll have to take this to the opera forums (or whatever they have for this purpose). [skipping paragraph break here, to see how far this line will go on your screen.] i'm pretty attached to using opera mail for all my forums- and list-mail (NNTP & IMAP), otherwise i could use kmail or thunderbird, where i can specify exactly where to break lines. should this really be hard-coded in opera? Word wrapped nicely at about 74 characters, thank you. I hope it worked for Basil, as well.
