Urgent: Sending in KMail: 'Sender address does not exist' (?)
Hello all, (SuSE 8.2) I don't know what happened, KMail don't want to send any mail and write that message ('Sender address does not exist') instead. Of course, sender has address, it can be even seen in From field of composer. What's worse, when I click on first mail (and then on second, etc) in Outbox, KMail deletes it (without leaving a copy!) and mail: 'from: nobody, subject: no subject', i.e. an empty mail. Is it possible to do something without upgrade? Thank you in advance. Nikola
Do you use a local Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) (e.g. sendmail, postfix or similar) or do you use an SMTP Server of your provider? If using local MTA, do you configure kmail to use SMTP on localhost or do you use the "sendmail binary" option? I assume you use a local sendmail-like MTA via direct "sendmail binary" option. This can cause problems in some cases. Ithat's the case, then you can use your local MTA via SMTP or use the SMTP relay server of your internet provider. Greets, Daniel Am Montag, 20. Daniel, Thank you very much for your response. I use SMTP, and both POP3 and SMTP server is local intranet server (in my case 10.0.0.1). I also have 5 other SuSEs (8.1s unlike this 8.2, with their version of KMail configured with exactly same options) and they work without any problem. Nikola On Mon, 20 Oct 2003, Daniel Eckl wrote:

Hi Nikola! So you have access to the SMTP Server that produces the message. What does /var/log/mail say if you trigger the problem? Greets, Daniel Am Montag, 20. Oktober 2003 23:10 schrieb Nikola Lecic:

Possibly guessing here, but is 10.0.0.22 in the /etc/hosts file of the smtp server. Do you have a limitation like that in your postfix setup. steve On Tuesday 21 October 2003 10:56, Nikola Lecic wrote:

Puh, that's strange. It seems that the machine isn't sending any data. But if it shows a server error message, then it had to be talking to a server. Are you really sure, the kmail settings are exactly the same? Have you set the problematic kmail to use any encryption / authentication / etc.? Have you tried to make a new user on the problematic machine, so that you can configure a whole new kmail to test with? Greets, Daniel Zitat von Nikola Lecic <nikola@serbianunity.net>:

Well, settings are very simple, without any encryption .... (you mentioned). I tried with Evolution with same settings (same names in account, same pop3&smtp servers) and it works. Then I found that problem is that KMail sometimes transforms a normal mail (from Inbox for example) to an empty mail. Sometimes, it moves forwarded message (for example) to Outbox, sends it, and then transforms it to an empty mail and put empty mail to Sent folder. But now, what made all this confusion, is that it sometimes happens in Outbox. The problem is that message is empty, and IT DOESN'T LOOK like an empty message, UNTIL YOU CLICK ON IT IN OUTBOX! (Then it looks as an empty message). Of course, that message, being empty in reality all time, blocks every next message you try to send. If I have 5 messages in Outbox, and first of them 'emptied', and try to move cursor from the first to the next - KMail 'empties' every next message. This doesn't happen if I click 3rd or 4th message, avoiding first after 'emptied'. So, the temporary solution is to copy messages from Outbox to tmp folder, and send them again, hoping that KMail won't find a reason to delete some of them. KMail bug? If so, any solution? Hi Nikola! 1. Try to use the function "Compact all folders" in the File menu of Kmail. 2. Check if all your folders you created are maildir style mailboxes. These have many advantages over mbox style mailboxes. To change the type of style you have to rename the old folder, create the folder new with the right name and right type and then move the messages. 3. If you have maildir style mailboxes already, then close kmail and delete all mail indices. Don't worry, they are rebuilt on kmail start and that's what we want to do. But I suggest to make a copy of your mailfoler, just to be sure. To delete all mail indices, you have to go to your "Mail" folder in your himedir and delete all .index and .index.ids files like: cp -a ~/Mail ~/Mail.backup find ~/Mail -name "*.index*" -exec rm {} \; I'm rather sure, that should fix the problems. Daniel, I did everything you suggested, and left 2 days to see if problem persists. I can say that situation is _better_, small number of messages was transformed to empty messages, but it still sometimes happens (sometimes I think it confuses messages from different directories, so I can find some of inbox-messages in ~/Mail/outbox/cur. Hello I'm in trouble with SuSE 8.2 with some annoying things (I updated from SuSE 8.0 one month ago). First of all: klpq doesn't work anymore. I obtain the follwing message: klpq: error while loading shared libraries: libkfile.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory And I checked that the libkfile.so.3 doesn't exist in my system. How is that possible ??? And what to do ? More later. Robert
