[opensuse-kde] KDE 4.6.0 for openSUSE 11.2 misses packages
Hello, I think for proper use of KDE 4.6.0 on openSUSE 11.2 the packages upower and udisks are badly needed, otherwise automatic detection of USB devices is broken, e.g. USB sticks or CD burner for k3b is not found. Could you please add these packages for openSUSE11.2? Malte -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

udisks is available. Why don't you install it? -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Yes, I found it in KDE:Factory for openSUSE 11.2. It would be easier to find if it was in KDE:/Release:/46/openSUSE_11.2/ and there it is not. And upower still is missing. Everything would be *easier* to find if it was in the same place :^) Why don't you dl the rpm-source for upower and rebuild it for 11.2? It was available at-one-time as I have it installed in 11.2, upower-0.9.1-1.1.x86_64. It is a requirement of pm-utils. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

I'd first try the SOLID_HAL_LEGACY=1 approach I mentioned at 0923UTC this morning. Will -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Is'nt there the possibility to select the 'Backend information soucre' in System Settings? System Settings -> Hardware -> Information sources -> see "Backend for Energy management" at least it was there under OSS 11.2 / KDE:Release:45 but yes, the question remains open, why udisks is in KDF/OSS11.2 and not in KR46/OSS11.2, and just where the hell upower has gotten lost to. Just HOW did KR46 compile for OSS 11.2 if udisks/upower isn't there ?? I'm asking, not trying to blame anybody. Thanks for the help of all so far, but as work must go on, I'm back on KDE 4.5.5, the 4.6 is just not 'there' yet for what I need daily. At least under OSS 11.2, kernel 2.6.31-desktop, nvidia 256.53, kwin of 4.6.0 does work without a greater hitch, but it's slower over all and more fickle when it come to window-placement. I think with 4.6.1 the new OSS 11.4 will be ok for the most KDE users, when I'm looking at bugs.kde.org, 4.6.1 shapes up a good deal better than 4.6.0 is now. Does this variable force KDE to use HAL?

Oh yes, even in KDE 4.4.4 you could change the backend! Oh boy, I just downgraded to KDE 4.4.4 now upgrade again and see if I can change the backend.... at 2 a.m. ..... Yes, so that 4.6 will use the same HAL backend to Solid used in < 4.6. The new udev/udisks/upower stuff in 4.6 is to enable KDE to work well in newer distribution releases. So it's cleaner to use the old code for your old release.

IIRC the backend switcher only controls networking and remote control backends (and there is no real choice there anyway). In < 4.6 there was only the HAL backend on Linux for core Solid. And this ability to switch backends at runtime is being removed in 4.6.
