Currently using kmail1.5, SuSE8.1, kde3.1 Is there a place to set how often kmail compacts its folders? I didn't see one under the settings--configure kmail. I know that it compacts folders when you exit the program but I rarely do that. Kmail will automatically enter the address of a maiingl list when I reply to it (the folder properties shows "folder holds mailing list", Is there some way to get it to do the same if I start a new message (like this one) while I'm in the appropriate folder? I seem to remember it doing this in version 1.3 Sorry i had to take this from the archives. I pressed delete too quickly, and it bypassed the trash. You can turn off compacting, and do it manually by right clicking on the folder you want to compact. I couldn't find any time information for compaction. For the new message addressed to the mailing list, if the folder with the mailing ist is highlighted go to message > and there's a choice for send to or address to mailing list. This came up in that help hints window that pops up when you open the program, I'm glad I haven't turned it off. -- Franklin Maurer nebbish@sprynet.com SuSE 8.1

Actually what I want is to have the folders compacted a couple of times a day automatically. It was suggested that a problem I was experiencing might be worked around by doing this. (Messages I had read were being marked as new or returning to folders after they had been deleted) Kmail seems to be compacting messages on its own now (I might be wrong about this though) but I was looking for info about how to set the frequency of this operation. The docs don't mention it and it may not be possible.
