Hello List, the mouse driver shipping with Suse 8.1 has only the option to set a fixed mouse speed. Especially with large resolutions this is a drawback. On some programs I need per pixel precise mouse resolution (f.e. Gimp). Is there an alternative mouse driver with mouse acceleration, known from windows? -- Sincerly yours Markus Tacker

Hi! Is the mouse acceleration from the kde control center not sufficient? Greets, Daniel

Hi Daniel and all. I have to agree about the "per pixel" and the degree of resolution one might need regarding certain applications (e.g. GIMP) with the mouse. I have seen certain configurations (such as XF86Config options) for setting a higher resolution and speed, but can't find any specifics on how to set this correctly and the full range of options/parameters one might use. I have a Logitech MX-500 that can have a very high level of precision. Unfortunately it is apparent while using certain programs, such as Gimp, that this is not being utilized fully. An example of the problem is when one zooms in on the piece they're working on it becomes apparent that the mouse is inprecise insofar that positioning the pointer at specific points seems to be "hit or miss". In otherwords, if I try to position the pointer at position "X" often times the pointer will skip to position X +/- 1 along the x/y axises. So, I cannot get the pointer to go to the place I want in some cases. If one is trying to do some technical illustration with a high level of detail this can be frustrating. Does anyone have any hints, of can point me to any HOWTO/help/man on how one tweaks the various mouse parameters (the larger/more extensive set of options/parameters the better)? XF86Config is the right place for this.

Well, you could compensate this with zooming the picture, but using the right resolution is somewhat smoother.

Sure. http://www.xfree86.org/current/mouse.html Have fun, Daniel
