that 3D has been discussed here as well. I was unaware that DRI (3D)
required the 2.4.20 kernel in order to work with XFree86 4.3.0.

I have one question...
if XFree86 4.3 has been released as RPMs for SuSE 8.1, where are they?? They don't show up in YOU. I checked the XFree86.org site and can't find them there. They don't show up as available via apt-get either. You need to update your sources.list file, then it's all there, notice it requires a dist-upgrade and the new 2.4.20 kernel for DRI.

Before I start of a big discussion here, it isn't required, but if you're just installing the rpm's from the SuSE apt repos, then 2.4.20 will be needed. Although you can of cause compile the dri modules yourself and use whatever kernel version you like. Tom
