[opensuse-kde] File access from windows machines and KDE
Hello, KDE 4.7 easily allows to share folders with Samba with Dolphin. Since I am a total noob I wonder, do I need to run SMB daemon when I just want to share some folders? Or is it really just enough to share a folder with Dolphin? Will a Windows machine on my wifi net automatically find the shared folder on the Linux machine? thanx Malte -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

You do need a running Samba server, with "user sharing" allowed. A very nice fellow wrote this little howto ;-) Section 12.2.2: http://opensuse-guide.org/windows.php -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-kde+owner@opensuse.org

thanx Malte I would suggest using Apache HTTPd in WebDAV mode instead. It will not give you automatic discovery unless you use a Bonjour client in Windows. However, creating an Internet shortcut on the client machine should suffice.
