Moving mail from Kmail/SuSE10 to Kmail/SuSE10.1, how?
Hi list, - I can't seem to move all my mail from my old SuSE10 machine to my new SuSE10.1 machine. - I copied the /home/vk/Mail over. - I copied /home/vk/.kde/share/config/kmailrc over This gave me my accounts and my mails - but NOT my subdirs of my mails... Can anyone enlighten me, please :-) BTW: SuSE10.1 install and runs perfectly fine in the first go on a DELL PRECISION | M90 with 1920 x 1200 screen (!) -- ------------------------------ Med venlig hilsen/Best regards Verner Kjærsgaard

Thanks for the answer. Eeehhh, I don't really understand.. Do you mean I should copy /home/vk/Mail to some location on the new box (or export it using NFS, whatever) and then point the new Kmail to import all from that file hieracharcy? What about my filter settings, accounts and all? -- ------------------------------ Med venlig hilsen/Best regards Verner Kjærsgaard

Hi Verner,
I probably missed this, but what versions of KDE and KMail are involved?
regards,
Carl
Hi Carl and list, - no, you did not. I forgot to write it... It's from SuSE10 (KDE3.4.2 level b, Kmail 1.8.2) to the standard of a brand new SuSE10.1, which appears to be KDE version 3.5.1 level a, Kmail 1.9.1. For what it's worth...I thought of copying something like /home/vk/Mail /home/vk/.kde/share/config/kmailrc - and perhpas more? I would very much like to get my mail, accounts, filter rules and all copied over... -- ------------------------------ Med venlig hilsen/Best regards Verner Kjærsgaard

You could try what I've done: Make a mirror backup of your 10.0 ~/.kde: ~> cp -rp .kde .orig-10.0-kde Upgrade 10.0 KDE to 3.5.2 level 'a' from the supplementary branch. Upgrade 10.1 KDE to 3.5.2 level 'a' from the supplementary branch. Once you've upgraded the 10.0 KDE, Kontact/KMail should automatically open and update your mail and settings to match the new version. That's what happened on my system after the upgrade. Make a mirror copy of your *updated* 10.0 ~/.kde to the 10.1 ~/.kde (either overwrite the existing ~/.kde or move it to ~/.orig-10.1-kde) FWIW, I'm running KDE 3.5.2 level 'a' from the supplementary branch on all three SUSE versions on this system: 9.3, 10.0 and 10.1. 9.3 is my 'fallback' Linux 10.0 is my 'daily' workspace 10.1 is in the debugging, pre-deployment phase regards, Carl

Yes.

Won't be imported, I am afraid. I thought you were talking about the mail only. Or did I miss something? Guido
